Chris Paul to Become Trade Eligible
LAS VEGAS — Chris Paul will be trade eligible starting Monday.
After returning to the Clippers on a one-year deal for his last NBA season, conflicts with coaches and management led the team to part ways with him. Since December 3, he has not been part of the squad.
The Clippers have stated they will assist Paul in finding a new team.
Reportedly, the Knicks have considered trading for him. This season has seen their backup point guard situation struggle after Malcolm Brogdon’s unexpected retirement right before it began. However, Tyler Kolek stepped up nicely in that role, notably during Saturday’s NBA Cup semifinal against the Magic.
Blake Griffin, now an analyst for Amazon Prime’s NBA coverage, was once a teammate of Paul’s during their time at the Clippers.
He expressed his thoughts on a potential Knicks and Paul pairing, pointing out—well, it might actually work.
“Seeing him come to Oklahoma City as a leader was impressive,” Griffin said. “He was a mentor, helping others understand the game. He did that with us too. Phoenix had major success with him at point guard, and after he left, they kinda stalled again. He’s shown time and again he can adapt to what the team needs. This could be beneficial for the Knicks.”
Yet, it’s a curious thought for Griffin to imagine Paul finishing his career with the Knicks. He acknowledges it would be strange.
“If he retires in a Knicks jersey, that would just be surreal,” Griffin added. “They’re a strong team, though.”
