NFL analyst Cris Collinsworth is under fire for his remarks regarding the Dallas Cowboys’ recent loss to the Minnesota Vikings. During the broadcast, he brought attention to the suicide of defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland while discussing the team’s challenges and Micah Parsons’ transfer to the Green Bay Packers.
Collinsworth mentioned Kneeland’s death multiple times throughout the game, which did not sit well with many viewers. Kneeland passed away on November 6, and authorities confirmed it was from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Notably, in the moments leading up to his death, he led police on a high-speed chase that reached 100 mph.
Initially, officers believed they were pursuing a stolen car, unaware that Kneeland was behind the wheel. They discovered his identity after he crashed the vehicle and fled. Friends and family had sent desperate messages indicating their concern for his safety.
The league and the Cowboys expressed deep sorrow over Kneeland’s passing. “We are extremely saddened by the tragic news,” the NFL stated, extending their condolences to his loved ones, while also providing support and counseling resources for those affected. Kneeland had showcased a promising moment just a day before his death, scoring his first career touchdown during a game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Throughout his three seasons in the NFL, Kneeland, who was drafted 56th overall in 2024 from Western Michigan, recorded a total of 149 tackles and 12.5 sacks. In the 2023 season, he achieved personal bests with 57 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
