On Saturday, a catastrophic incident unfolded at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party involving Rob Reiner’s son, Nick, who has struggled with drug addiction. In a shocking turn of events, Nick allegedly killed both his father and mother, Michele.
Reports indicate that during the party, tensions escalated into a “very loud argument,” potentially linked to Nick’s reversion to substance use. Sources shared that he has undergone rehabilitation at least 17 times since he was just 15 years old.
A source disclosed to People magazine that Nick’s behavior was erratic, alarming others as he repeatedly inquired about their fame.
This unsettling altercation occurred less than a day before the tragic incident at their family’s Los Angeles home, where the violent attack allegedly took place.
According to a long-time family friend, Rob confided in others at the party about his worries regarding Nick’s deteriorating mental health.
There was an expectation that Nick was staying clean, but whispers suggested otherwise. A neighbor mentioned he had been heavily addicted to drugs, notably opiates and heroin, during his worst periods.
Another local remarked that Nick aimed to seek help but preferred to do it at home rather than in a rehab facility, a topic of discussion for the family for years.
Rob Reiner, 78, a prominent figure in Hollywood, left the gathering with his wife Michele, 68, shortly after the confrontation. Their daughter, Romy, 28, later discovered the grim scene.
Nick reportedly told authorities that his brother posed a threat and should be investigated. He was arrested a few hours later and charged with murder.
Rob and Michele are also parents to Jake, 34, who has worked as a television reporter and hosted a podcast.
The well-known director had previously adopted Tracy, the daughter of his ex-wife, Penny Marshall. Tracy expressed her shock and disbelief in an interview.
The last public sighting of Nick was alongside his family at the premiere of Spinal Tap II earlier this month, where they appeared together on the red carpet.
Nick’s struggles with addiction have plagued him for over half his life, leading to significant financial and personal hardships, including periods of homelessness.
