Kash Patel Defends Use of Private Jet Amid Controversy
FBI Director Kash Patel has defended his use of a private jet to visit his girlfriend, country music singer Alexis Wilkins. He suggests that Congressional Democrats scrutinizing his travels might want to rethink their own travel methods.
Members of the House Judiciary Committee have been looking into Patel’s private jet use for several weeks. However, he maintains that he is legally bound from using commercial flights.
“We cover our personal travel expenses, just like other officials,” Patel stated during the “Katie Miller Podcast.”
He remarked, “It’s quite ironic that they’re questioning whether I’m going on vacation or to see my girlfriend perform. If I was truly misusing the jet, I’d be attending all her shows. I think it’s only about 15% of the time.”
Patel also mentioned that early in his term, he encouraged the department to utilize government airfields for private travel, which could help save taxpayer money compared to flying out of commercial airports.
Recently, Judiciary Committee member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) and Rep. Sidney Kamlager-Daub (D-Calif.) sent a letter to Patel asking him to “reimburse the government for unofficial travel,” as reported by Axios.
News outlets indicated that Patel has been using the FBI’s private jet for visits to his girlfriend, sporting events, and other engagements. When asked about his visits to Wilkins since January, Patel shared he had seen her perform at least three times and visited her several times during holidays and birthdays.
Wilkins has come to Patel’s defense, emphasizing her efforts to travel to him instead of the other way around. “If I wasn’t working in Nashville or traveling, I’d prefer to come here; it makes the most sense,” she explained about their travel arrangements.
Additionally, the couple faces claims regarding Patel supposedly directing a security guard assigned to Wilkins to assist one of his friends. The FBI has denied these allegations.
Such reports have fueled more discussion among Democrats, adding to the couple’s challenges. They’ve also had to deal with conspiracy theories regarding their relationship. One of the more unusual theories suggests that Wilkins is involved in espionage on behalf of foreign governments, a claim she strongly denies.
“I ponder the internet theories, too,” Wilkins remarked in response to questions about the wild claims surrounding her. “I’m not Jewish; I’m Christian and Armenian. I’m not sure how that conclusion was drawn. I’ve never been to Israel, though I’d love to visit one day.”
Wilkins expressed her confusion over the situation, stating, “I’m just as perplexed as everyone else.” Amid the pressure, she mentioned that when she feels down about the attacks, she turns to her friends and family for support.
At one point, Patel hinted at possible engagement plans, reassuring listeners, “We won’t disappoint” when the topic came up.
