An Australian police officer became a hero for his decisive action during a terrorist attack at Bondi Beach, where he engaged in what was described as a “once-in-a-lifetime shooting.” This officer, Senior Constable Cesar “Seth” Barraza, turned out to be the local detective known for his appearances on a reality TV show, where he expressed his desire to join the force due to his strong aversion to crime.
It’s believed that his shots fatally struck one assailant, identified as 50-year-old Sajid Akram, and injured his 24-year-old son, Naveed Akram, shortly thereafter.
Barraza, a 16-year veteran of the police force, previously appeared in a series that showcased the early careers of new officers, aptly named Recruit. When interviewed on the show, he admitted simply, “Because I hate crime,” when asked about his motivation to become an officer.

Media reports described the encounter as extraordinary, emphasizing that even the most skilled marksman would have found it challenging to hit a target under such conditions.
“The second shot took experts by surprise… They couldn’t believe it,” one source relayed to the media. Police continue to perform ballistic evaluations to determine whether Barraza’s bullet was indeed the one that killed the terrorist.
This tragic event involved two suspects who carried out a shooting spree that left 15 people dead, targeting Jews celebrating Hanukkah on the beach.
The surviving shooter, Naveed Akram, was recently charged with 59 offenses, including 15 counts of murder, after regaining consciousness in a Sydney hospital. Officials indicated that the charges encompass one murder count and one terrorism count for each victim.
Authorities also discovered Akram’s vehicle at the scene, which contained improvised explosive devices along with a homemade ISIS flag.
