NFL Regular Season Wraps Up, Fantasy Football Punishments Loom
The end of the NFL regular season signals the approaching conclusion of fantasy football. While the games may be wrapping up, the penalties for last-place teams are just getting started.
A common result for those who finish at the bottom is spending 24 hours devouring pancakes at places like IHOP. It’s a light-hearted punishment, but for some, it might feel a bit intense.
Take New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabors, for instance. He was a first-round pick in many fantasy leagues this season before tearing his ACL in Week 4. The Giants’ roster took a noticeable hit without him, which was also felt by many fantasy managers who relied on him.
Nabors, aiming to lighten the mood regarding his injury, partnered with IHOP for a humorous ad about the fantasy football experience and the struggles of last-place finishers. “Every year, thousands of fantasy football leagues have their losing teams eat pancakes at IHOP for a full day,” Nabors quipped.
A waitress then chimed in, adding some playful shade, “Like how you helped everyone’s fantasy team this season?” It’s those little quips that can really hit home for fans and players alike.
Interestingly, Nabors drew a bit of sweet, albeit bittersweet attention during his pancake ordeal. As he munched away on pancakes, crutches beside him, a young fan recognized him and exclaimed, “I wasted a first-round pick on you!” It’s moments like these that can be both hilarious and sobering.
Before getting injured, Nabors had an impressive rookie season with 109 receptions, over 1,200 yards, and seven touchdowns. It’s definitely a lot to live up to for a young player trying to bounce back. In the four games this season prior to his injury, he notched 18 catches, demonstrated his skills, and notched two touchdowns.
As next season rolls around, fantasy managers are crossing their fingers that Nabors makes a comeback and stays far from the last-place situation. After all, the world of fantasy football can pivot so quickly.
