UTSA’s Commanding Victory and Coach Traylor’s Drenched Celebration
UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor had quite the night on Friday, leading his team to a resounding 57-20 win against Florida International in the First Responder Bowl held at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. However, it wasn’t completely perfect for Traylor, who found himself dodging water showers from his jubilant players.
As the game neared its conclusion, Traylor sensed what was coming. He made a quick move towards the sideline, hoping to avoid the inevitable soaking. But his escape wasn’t entirely successful.
Just as he reached the end of the sideline and turned around, wide receiver Jamel Hardy Jr. was right behind him, ready to deliver a celebratory splash. Traylor tried to evade the dousing but ended up getting caught and ultimately soaked, despite his best efforts. In one last attempt to save himself, he even flopped onto a service mat, which became a part of the chaotic shower celebration.
While the attempts to evade the water might have been in vain, Traylor didn’t seem too bothered by it. It was a moment of laughter, and perhaps the good-natured chaos overshadowed the minor mishap. After all, this marked UTSA’s sixth consecutive bowl appearance, a huge achievement for the team.
The game started with FIU jumping to an early 14-0 lead. However, UTSA quickly countered, tying the game at 14 by the end of the first quarter. They maintained total control after that, outgaining FIU with a significant edge of 310 yards to 93 in the first half. Quarterback Owen McCown showcased his skills by throwing three touchdown passes, and running back Will Henderson III added three scores of his own.
