Pop-Tarts Bowl showcases antics and mascot tributes after BYU victory

Poptarts Bowl Postgame Highlights

The postgame scene at the Poptarts Bowl was quite the spectacle, marked by some playful antics and, well, sacrifices.

Following BYU’s close 25-21 victory against Georgia Tech on Saturday, fans quickly turned their attention to the PopTarts mascot. The brand had teased a “greatest sacrifice in history,” which ended up being put to a vote during the game.

In a humorous twist, two Pop-Tart mascots were placed in a toaster, with one side emerging fully baked to loud applause from the audience.

The third mascot, who had initially been standing near the others, made a playful gesture to the crowd before leaping from the toaster and making a hasty escape.

Amid the mascot’s antics, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake found himself on the receiving end of a mini Pop-Tart shower from his players after the win. He was seen munching on the tiny snacks as they flew around him.

“I just had one little mini Pop-Tart, and I’m ready to roll,” he remarked in a postgame interview.

While accepting the trophy, Sitake took a giant bite out of a full-sized Pop-Tart, prompting a cheering response from the fans.

The Bowl, referred to as the People’s National Championship, has garnered a reputation for its mascots’ lively postgame behavior since it was rebranded with the PopTarts theme before the 2023 season.

Putting the antics aside, the game was competitive. BYU secured their win thanks to a game-clinching interception in the end zone with just seconds to spare.

Quarterback Bear Bachmeier played a pivotal role, completing 27 out of 38 passes for 325 yards, including a touchdown.

Even though BYU finished the season with an impressive 12-2 record, they were left out of the College Football Playoff, a decision that sparked some controversy among fans.

Nevertheless, Sitake asserted that the team needs to look ahead, emphasizing not to dwell on any perceived disrespect.

“They made their choice, and we’ll be just fine,” Sitake stated to the media after Saturday’s game. “We need to carry on and keep playing our game.”

“If things don’t pan out as expected, that’s alright. How you respond will be what defines you,” he concluded.
