Drake Maye Shines in Patriots’ Victory

In an impressive display, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye threw five touchdown passes on Sunday, leading his team to a 42-10 win over the New York Jets. This performance not only secured victory but also earned him the NFL MVP title.

Maye got things rolling early, throwing a 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Austin Hooper right at the start. However, it was in the second quarter that he really lit up the field, connecting with Rhamondre Stephenson, Stefon Diggs, and Hunter Henry for a series of touchdowns. By halftime, the Patriots were comfortably ahead at 35-3.

Unfortunately, Maye was ejected later in the game but not before finding Efton Chism III for a 10-yard touchdown pass. He concluded the matchup with a perfect passer rating of 157.0, completing 19 of 21 passes for 256 yards, being sacked only once. Joshua Dobbs took over as quarterback toward the end.

This game marked a significant achievement for Maye, as he became the first Patriots quarterback since Tom Brady to throw five touchdown passes in a single game—Brady did so back in 2017 against the Houston Texans, throwing for 378 yards.

Unlike Brady, Maye’s yardage hasn’t often exceeded 300 yards in games. Surprisingly, even as an MVP candidate this season, he has received the award only once, just recently against the Baltimore Ravens, where he threw for 380 yards, completing 31 of 44 passes.

With this latest victory, the Patriots improved to 13-3 for the season, marking their best record since the 2016 season—a year that saw them reach the Super Bowl.

Next, the Patriots will finish the season at home against the Miami Dolphins.
