Kendrick Bourne Celebrates Bonus, Shares a Funny Moment
Kendrick Bourne, a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, was quite open while marking a milestone—he surpassed 500 receiving yards this season, which also secured him a $500,000 bonus.
During the exciting third quarter of the 49ers’ 42-38 victory against the Bears on “Sunday Night Football” at Levi’s Stadium, NBC’s Melissa Stark mentioned on air that Bourne’s wife, who played in the previous game’s win over the Colts, was thrilled about the bonus, especially with Christmas approaching.
Stark quipped, “It was perfect timing right before Christmas because he said, ‘My wife Vanessa is expensive, so she was as happy as I was.'”
To which Stark humorously remarked, “Yes, Vanessa, he sold you out.”
Both Mike Tirico, the play-by-play announcer, and analyst Cris Collinsworth chuckled at the remark. Collinsworth joked, “He’s dead,” while Tirico added, “You’re right. Didn’t he know he was being recorded?”
Bourne, 30, expressed his excitement about sharing the bonus with teammates, admitting he got so caught up in the moment that he left his game ball behind.
The couple has been married since March 2023.
In a light-hearted response, Vanessa shared a video on National Football Wives’ Instagram Stories, poking fun at Stark’s comments. “I have $87 and I don’t know what to do with it,” she said jokingly, featuring her husband in the clip.
She added a playful note, saying, “I’m insinuating that I’m asking a man to give me money,” alongside the video, referring to the commentary about her during the game.
Having signed a one-year contract worth up to $5 million with the Niners in September, Bourne stands to gain an extra $250,000 in incentives if he reaches 600 yards this season.
After a single catch in the game against the Bears, he now boasts a total of 551 yards. Bourne joined the 49ers after being let go by the Patriots in August.
His NFL career began with San Francisco in 2017, after he went undrafted from Eastern Washington.
This Saturday, the 49ers (12-4) will face off against the division rival Seattle Seahawks (13-3), with the winner securing the NFC’s top seed.
