Minnesota GOP Calls for Governor Walz’s Resignation Over Fraud Allegations
Minnesota Republicans are demanding that Governor Tim Walz resign, pointing to what they describe as “billion-dollar fraud.” State Representatives Bill Rieske, Nathan Wesenberg, Marge Fogelman, Drew Roach, and Mike Wiener issued a joint statement highlighting serious allegations of misconduct.
They expressed frustration, stating, “For years, Minnesotans have watched fraud cases get worse and worse. It’s been going on long enough. This isn’t just politics or stunts, and we don’t take this lightly. The governor’s office is important, and we have tried to give Governor Walz the opportunity to address this.”
They continued, “Leadership means doing the right thing even when it’s challenging. That’s why we’re calling for his resignation. We’re dealing with a multibillion-dollar issue that should have gone to vulnerable Minnesotans. There were clear warning signs, yet the fraud kept increasing every year without change.”
According to the representatives, constituents frequently bring up concerns about accountability. They want answers—why no one seems to be held responsible and why the governor hasn’t resigned.
“What the governor is demonstrating is what failure looks like. When a governor neglects his duties and allows a crisis to escalate without action, that’s a failure. He had the responsibility to oversee these programs and protect them. He didn’t. I need to see results,” they said.
The lawmakers argued that, in the interest of the state, Governor Walz should resign. They believe Minnesota needs a fresh start and leadership that can steer it back on course.
They cited Article 8, Section 6 of the Minnesota Constitution, which outlines misconduct as grounds for recalling executive officers. Although they haven’t initiated a recall, they feel it supports their call for the governor’s resignation.
Citizen journalist Nick Shirley reportedly uncovered over $110 million in fraud in a single day. Additionally, Small Business Administration Secretary Kelly Loeffler announced that Minnesota would lose funding due to ongoing issues related to scams, particularly concerning the Somali community.
In response to these allegations, Walz’s office maintained that the governor has been actively working for years to combat fraud in the state.
