The entire NBA community is anxiously awaiting the results of Nikola Jokic’s MRI.
The star center for the Nuggets had been in the running for MVP earlier this season, but things took a turn after a significant loss to the Heat, where the game was tied at 62 at halftime.
This concerning fall has raised alarms about his knee, affecting everyone around him, including his coach.
“All I know is it’s a left knee injury,” Nuggets coach David Adelman commented post-game after the Nuggets fell to the Heat 147-123.
“He’ll need to assess what it is. During halftime, it seemed like he got tangled with his teammates and immediately sensed something was off. It’s a sad part of the NBA. It’s hard to see anyone get hurt, especially someone of his caliber. We should have more clarity tomorrow.”
Jokic was injured when teammate Spencer Jones accidentally stepped on his foot while defending Jaime Jaquez Jr. headed to the basket.
At 30 years old, Jokic was seen limping back to the locker room after being helped to his feet.
He recently showcased his exceptional skills with a performance against the Timberwolves on Christmas Day, tallying 58 points, 16 rebounds, and 15 assists—a historic achievement for him.
Currently, Jokic boasts averages of 29.9 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 11.1 assists per game.
“As a team, we’ll move ahead,” Adelman stated. “What worries me more is his well-being and how disappointing this must be for him. I feel let down too. Just like with Cam, I wish the best for them.”
“We have to rally as a team, keep pushing forward. Honestly, supporting our teammates while they’re out is crucial. It’s a part of the NBA; it’s tough, but we’ll see what tomorrow brings.”
The Nuggets currently hold a 22-10 record, placing them third in the Western Conference. They’re eyeing a run to the NBA Finals, but losing Jokic for an extended period could significantly impact their chances.
“My thoughts drift tonight,” said Adelman. “If he’s sidelined for a while, I can’t help but think about our next steps.”
The Nuggets are set to face the Raptors in Toronto this Wednesday night.
