FBI Joins Search for Missing 19-Year-Old Texas Boy
The aunt and cousin of Camila Mendoza Olmos, a 19-year-old who disappeared on Christmas Eve, appeared on a morning news program to discuss the search efforts for her.
Recently, Texas authorities released dashcam footage capturing the last known sighting of Mendoza Olmos, who has been missing since early Christmas Eve and is believed to be in “immediate danger.” The video, albeit grainy, shows a person in the same clothes she was wearing when she left her home shortly before her disappearance.
According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, the footage was recorded by a neighbor on their way to work. This sighting occurred just blocks away from her home, and authorities are exploring the unsettling possibility that “someone may have taken her” after that moment.
“We’re sharing this in hopes someone might have a similar video,” he mentioned during a press conference, emphasizing it as the best lead the investigation has at this point.
Camila Mendoza Olmos was last seen near her home in Caspian Sea Springs. When she left her house, she wore a light blue and black hoodie with pajama pants and white shoes.
“It feels like someone took her away,” her aunt Nancy Olmos expressed. She strongly denied rumors linking her ex-boyfriend to the situation, explaining that the two had separated amicably and their families had been close for years.
Her cousin, Destiny Mendoza, shared that their last interaction was uneventful. “Everything was completely normal. It was just, ‘Oh, I love you, I’ll talk to you after gym,'” she said, adding that Camila wasn’t an outdoorsy type who would wander off on a trail.
While there are various theories regarding her disappearance, Sheriff Salazar acknowledged that past “bouts of depression” among young individuals could complicate the case. “We must consider all possibilities—deliberate disappearance, potential self-harm, or the likelihood that someone else took her,” he noted.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who might have been in the area or has information to contact them directly.
Salazar also mentioned that the FBI is assisting with the analysis of digital evidence and video footage, while Homeland Security is keeping an eye on flight and border records, even though they have no direct evidence suggesting she left the country.
Despite being a U.S. citizen, the sheriff reached out to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, confirming that she was not in their custody. “We had to check that, even if it led us nowhere,” he concluded.
