Wind Gusts Cause Disruption in Upstate New York

In upstate New York on Monday, strong wind gusts were so fierce that they uprooted trees and knocked people off their feet, as seen in videos and reports.

One particularly shocking video features Diane Miller from Hamburg. She opened the door to her daughter’s house just as winds boosted to 110 mph, sending her sprawling to the ground. “It happened so quickly that I couldn’t quite grasp what was going on,” Miller recalled. “Honestly, I never thought I’d be blown around like that.”

The footage shows her being knocked down the stairs and landing in the bushes as she tried to exit. “As soon as I opened the door, the wind just swept me away,” she mentioned.

“I’ve never been caught in winds this intense,” she continued. “I was definitely not ready to be tossed around like that.”

Meanwhile, Tyler Gall, who was working on shower jacuzzi installations in South Buffalo, narrowly avoided injury when a tree fell nearby just moments after he left his work truck. “I can’t shake the thought that if I had been standing there, it could have been disastrous,” Gall remarked. “I guess it’s a reminder to cherish every moment.”

“People really underestimate how powerful the wind can be,” he added. “It doesn’t feel like a hurricane, but it can be just as dangerous, trust me on that.”

A potent storm swept through much of the Great Lakes and the Northeast, placing over 40 million people under various winter weather alerts. Wind gusts recorded at Buffalo Airport reached 110 mph, coming close to the 82 mph record set back in February 1967.
