2025: Successes, challenges, and enduring impacts — A look back at Allie Beth Stuckey’s year

2025: A Year of Significant Events

What a year 2025 has been—far from dull. President Trump made a notable comeback to the White House, and thankfully, the policies of the Biden administration were rolled back. Unfortunately, left-wing violence surged, leading to heightened concerns. The country also faced several natural disasters that wreaked havoc in various regions. Additionally, divisions among conservatives deepened, causing rifts within the MAGA community.

This year has certainly had its share of highs and lows. In an episode of “Relatable,” Allie Beth Stuckey revisits four defining moments of 2025.

1. President Trump’s Inauguration

On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump was sworn in for his second term as president. It was quite the event. Carrie Underwood started to sing “America the Beautiful,” but there was a sound system failure. Remarkably, she continued with an a capella performance, hitting every note perfectly.

“It was absolutely beautiful,” Allie remarked.

However, some controversy surrounded Trump’s swearing-in; he opted not to touch the Bible, which led some to label it a scandal. Allie, however, points out that this wasn’t a serious matter. The Trump family brought their own Bible for the ceremony, showing that it wasn’t a statement against the faith.

2. Vatican Elects First American Pope

On May 8, 2025, white smoke appeared from the Sistine Chapel, signaling the election of a new pope following Pope Francis’s passing. Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, hailing from Chicago, took the name Pope Leo XIV, marking a historic moment as he became the first American pope.

“This is a crucial historical milestone, not just for the Catholic Church but for the West in general,” Allie noted.

“Sadly, Pope Leo holds progressive views on some issues, which I find concerning,” she added.

3. Loss of Four Prominent Protestant Leaders

In a somber turn, 2025 saw the passing of four influential evangelical leaders.

On May 26, Phil Robertson, often referred to as the Patriarch of the Dak Dynasty and a respected Christian figure, died at 79 after battling Alzheimer’s. Then, on July 14, renowned pastor and theologian John MacArthur passed away at 86 due to pneumonia.

James Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family and a psychologist, died on August 21 at 89 from undisclosed causes. Lastly, on September 25, Reformed Baptist preacher Voddie Baucham Jr. passed away suddenly at the age of 56.

“This feels like a significant loss for our generation of evangelical pastors and leaders,” said Allie.

“Their legacies remain, and it’s clear that God knew their days. Still, it’s heartbreaking, especially for their families.”

4. Murder of Charlie Kirk

Finally, 2025 will be remembered for the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk. On September 10, while attending a Turning Point USA event, the founder was shot in the neck on the campus of Utah Valley University. He leaves behind his wife Erica, two children, and a growing movement that expanded significantly after his death.

“I’ll never forget that day,” Allie, who was a friend of Charlie’s, shared.

“What we observed at Charlie’s memorial and on college campuses shows a shift happening right now,” she reflected.

“Initially, there was a surge of unity, but sadly, it quickly devolved into intrigue, accusations, and division.”

Nevertheless, Allie believes that the renaissance of faith and community is ongoing, albeit quieter than before. “When we reach the other side of eternity, we’ll see the beautiful tapestry woven from countless, often overlooked moments, leading to salvation,” she concluded.
