George Clooney provides important news on the progress of 'Ocean's 14'

Are the gang’s spies good enough to pull off another heist?

George Clooney, at 64, recently shared his thoughts on the “Ocean” movie series that kicked off with “Ocean’s Eleven” in 2001. He mentioned that while there’s a perception they might be too old for the roles, they still possess the savvy to navigate challenges effectively.

“There was this idea that we’re too old to do the things we used to do, but we’re still smart enough to know how to get things done, and that’s what appeals to me,” he remarked during a Tuesday interview.

Despite age considerations, filming for “Ocean’s 14” is set to start in 2026, as the movie moves closer to production. “The budget has just been approved at Warner Bros., and we’re in the middle of preparing it,” Clooney explained, adding that they’re essentially arranging a timeline. “We’ll probably start shooting in nine or ten months,” he noted.

The heist series began with 2001’s “Ocean’s Eleven,” which was a remake of the 1960 film featuring Frank Sinatra and his crew. The original film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, starred not only Clooney but also Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and Julia Roberts.

This was followed by “Ocean’s 12” in 2004 and “Ocean’s 13” in 2007. In 2018, the series took a different angle with “Ocean’s 8,” led by Sandra Bullock and a host of other notable actresses, although Clooney didn’t feature in that installment.

It’s expected that Roberts, Pitt, Damon, and Cheadle will return alongside Clooney for “Ocean’s 14.” He noted that older team members are stepping up to tackle new projects, adapting to any limitations that may come with age.

This isn’t the first time older characters have returned to action roles; Harrison Ford did it in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” and the more recent “Indiana Jones and the Dial.” Liam Neeson has also made a significant mark as an action star despite starting that journey in his 70s.

According to reports, the upcoming film draws some inspiration from the 1979 movie “Going in Style,” which followed older criminals, later remade in 2017. Also, Margot Robbie is set to join the prequel film.

The premiere date for “Ocean’s 14” remains unannounced.
