Scott Adams Shares Grim Health Update
Scott Adams, the creator of “Dilbert,” disclosed on Thursday during an episode of “Coffee with Scott Adams” that he received a troubling prognosis from a radiologist.
In May, Adams initially shared his diagnosis of prostate cancer on the show. Recently, he has faced complications like constipation and lower body paralysis, which led to a brief hospital stay. He suggested that January might be his last month alive, which is quite a heavy statement.
“I had a conversation with the radiologist yesterday, and it’s not good news. Essentially, there’s very little chance for my recovery. I’ll let you know if anything changes, but I don’t expect it to,” Adams stated. He also mentioned that he’s dealing with ongoing heart failure, making everyday breathing occasionally difficult. “Right now, though, I’m managing to breathe and I’m not in pain,” he added.
He reflected, “We need to prepare for January being a month of transition in some way. I haven’t made any final decisions, but I’ve received nothing but bad news.” Nonetheless, he indicated he would keep hosting the show and writing comics for now, displaying a surprisingly positive vibe about his current lifestyle.
“What’s really unsettling is when I have these coughing fits and can’t breathe. Sometimes it can last for hours—like eight to twelve—and it’s tough, but it’s not hell all the time. Still, things are shifting pretty fast,” he commented.
Adams had previously to cut two episodes short in December due to coughing fits. He even reached out to President Trump in a November 2 post, mentioning that his health insurer, Kaiser Permanente, needed to step in as it had failed to schedule him for a critical cancer treatment. He suggested that pushing this issue might have saved his life.
In a November 22 update, he noted that Kaiser was “definitely stepping up” and providing a “quality product.” However, he ended up hospitalized on December 11. He continued to perform live streams during his hospital stay, even while being transported to a radiation center to treat a spinal tumor, hoping for some recovery from his paralysis.
Since December 21, Adams has been live streaming his show from home.
