Justice Department requests voting records from Minnesota amid fraud investigation

The Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights has reached out to Minnesota for details regarding its voter registration processes.

On Friday, Harmeet Dhillon published a letter addressed to Secretary of State Steve Simon. In it, she requested information about the state’s “vouching” system used in voter registrations.

“I sent Secretary Simon a letter demanding records related to Minnesota’s ‘vouching’ system for voter registration, based on my authority under the Civil Rights Act of 1960. This system appears to conflict with the Help America Vote Act of 2002. We’ll see how this unfolds!”

“The purpose of this request is to confirm that Minnesota’s registration and voting methods align with federal regulations, especially the standards set by HAVA,” Dhillon remarked in her post.

“The Department of Justice is particularly focused on votes and registrations accepted through ‘vouching’ by other registered voters or staff from residential facilities, along with any same-day registration methods.”

Dhillon is seeking all records that document same-day voter registrations, votes cast by registered voters in Minnesota, and records for all federal elections conducted in the past 22 months.

This inquiry arises amidst allegations that child daycare centers operated by Somali individuals in Minneapolis have misappropriated millions in taxpayer money.

Consequently, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has frozen federal child care funds across the country due to these suspected fraudulent activities in Minnesota.
