Angelina Jolie Plans to Depart Hollywood

Angelina Jolie appears ready to close the door on Hollywood as she embarks on a new chapter, possibly outside the United States, according to sources.

The 50-year-old actress and humanitarian has listed her historic Cecil B. DeMille mansion for $25 million, a property she has called home since 2016. Reports indicate she has been quietly showing it to potential buyers.

In 2026, Jolie will split her time between New York, where she oversees her fashion group Atelier Jolie, Europe—aiming to safeguard her privacy—and Cambodia, where she has spent many years, as a source shared.

“She can’t escape the drama enough. Sometimes, the only way to find some peace is just to walk away,” noted Jay Benjamin, an actor who has known Jolie since 2005.

The turmoil surrounding Angelina primarily stems from her contentious separation from ex-husband Brad Pitt, 62. They reached a final divorce settlement on December 30, 2024, marking the end of an eight-year legal battle initiated by Jolie’s filing for divorce.

Interestingly, she had previously mentioned wanting to remain in Los Angeles until her six children with Pitt are 18, which means she’ll stay put until her twins, Knox and Vivienne, celebrate their birthdays in July.

Throughout their tumultuous relationship, Jolie has taken on the role of primary caregiver for their children. Some have even chosen to drop “Pitt” from their last names. Shiloh is also in the process of legally removing Pitt from her last name as she turns 18 in 2024.

A representative for Pitt declined to comment, and Jolie’s team did not respond to requests for statements.

“After everything she’s gone through with Brad, what she’s faced throughout their lives, the best route to find a break is to step away,” said Benjamin, “It’s tough being in a place where you can’t find a stranger.”

While Jolie has focused more on her creative passions, her film work has been met with mixed reactions. For instance, she earned an Oscar nomination for her lead role in the biopic “Maria,” but faced disappointment during awards season.

Jolie has long sought a life beyond Hollywood, especially after losing her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, to cancer in 2007. She sees herself as a global citizen, wanting to focus on humanitarian efforts, particularly since her breakout role in “Tomb Raider” in 2001 led her to become an advocate for Cambodia.

In a recent interview, she expressed a desire to spend more time in Cambodia and to embrace a more private life. “I wouldn’t be an actress now,” she commented, reflecting on her early career and the unexpected level of public exposure it brought her.

Despite not being active with the UN anymore, she recently visited Gaza, meeting with support workers and patients in Egypt, showcasing her ongoing commitment to humanitarian causes.

There have been whispers about Jolie intending to move to London, with reports of her house hunting in the city as she gears up for a new project. Additionally, she remains embroiled in a legal dispute with Pitt over their joint winery, Chateau Miraval, complicating any plans for a clean break.

As Jolie looks to prioritize her personal comfort and privacy, especially in the wake of her highly publicized divorce, she seems less interested in Hollywood’s spotlight. Meanwhile, Pitt continues to dive deep into projects, having achieved recent success with his production company.

While Pitt thrives in Hollywood—encouraged by his current relationship with health coach Ines de Ramon—Jolie appears more focused on exploring her artistic passions away from the glare of fame.
