Venezuelan golfer Johnattan Vegas shares his thoughts after Trump calls for Maduro's capture

Trump Orders Operation to Capture Maduro

President Donald Trump has initiated a significant operation aimed at capturing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to bring him to the United States for justice.

The U.S. Army’s elite Delta Force is reportedly leading this mission, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The development has sparked reactions from various individuals, including athletes and political figures connected to Venezuela.

Jonathan Vegas, a golfer from Venezuela who competes on the PGA Tour, has expressed his thoughts on the matter.

He posted his support on X, saying, “Long live Venezuela, damn it, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL” (sic).

Vegas, currently ranked No. 85 globally, made headlines at the 2025 PGA Championship when he became the first Venezuelan to lead in a major tournament. He finished at 8 under after the first 36 holes at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, ultimately tying for fifth place.

Vegas was introduced to golf at a very young age, around two years old. “As a child, I would hit anything I could find—rocks, broomsticks, you name it,” he recounted after the 2022 PGA Championship’s opening round. “I just grabbed anything I could swing and tried. My father’s love for the sport helped too.”

Latest Updates on Nicolas Maduro’s Capture

As a teenager, Vegas moved from Venezuela to the United States. He learned English and excelled at golf, eventually playing for the Texas Longhorns.

In 2011, he achieved a milestone by winning the Bob Hope Classic, making him the first Venezuelan to secure a victory in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event.

He has also represented Venezuela in the Olympics on two occasions.

Regarding the operation, Trump described Maduro’s Presidential Palace as a heavily fortified military stronghold in Caracas. He stated that Maduro almost reached a secure area but was unable to do so.

In an early morning interview on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Trump mentioned that if Maduro had been trapped, U.S. forces were prepared with “giant torches” to breach the walls.
