Incident Involving Off-Duty Officer
The Austin Police Department announced that an off-duty police officer from a nearby precinct was shot and killed on Sunday night.
This officer was part of the Caldwell County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office, which is situated around 45 minutes south of Austin.
Reports indicate that the deputy was serving as a security guard at a facility in north Austin when the incident occurred, specifically at Club Rodeo.
“A deputy was involved in a shooting incident while working as an off-duty security guard at a facility in Austin,” shared the Caldwell County Department on social media.
As for the investigation, officials are still searching for the suspect, who remains unidentified and at large.
Austin police arrived at the scene shortly after 2 a.m., discovering the Caldwell County deputy in the parking lot with injuries consistent with a shooting.
Sadly, authorities later confirmed that he did not survive after being transported to a local hospital.
The investigation continues, with Austin Police seeking the public’s assistance in identifying any witnesses or suspects who may have been present at Club Rodeo during the shooting.
Caldwell County officials have chosen not to disclose the victim’s identity just yet, in respect for the family’s privacy.
“We pay our respects to the deputy and his family and ask that their privacy be respected,” the agency commented. “We’ll provide further details as they become available.”
The Caldwell County 2nd Precinct expressed their condolences on social media, saying, “Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of Deputy Caldwell County Constable. Please continue to pray for his family and loved ones as we navigate this heartbreaking loss.”
