Deputy Shot and Killed in Austin

The Austin Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect following the shooting death of an off-duty police officer on Sunday night. This officer was part of the Caldwell County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office, situated about 45 minutes south of Austin.

According to statements from the Caldwell County Constable’s Office, the officer was working security at a north Austin venue known as Club Rodeo at the time of the incident.

“A deputy was involved in a shooting incident while working as an off-duty security guard at a facility in Austin,” the Caldwell County Department mentioned in a social media post.

Multiple law enforcement agencies got involved, including the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, with help from Austin Police air support, K-9 units, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. They managed to apprehend the suspect later in the afternoon.

Austin police reported they responded to calls just after 2 a.m. and discovered the Caldwell County deputy in the parking lot, suffering from “physical trauma.” He was transported to a local hospital, but unfortunately, he “succumbed to his injuries,” according to Caldwell officials.

The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are seeking public assistance to identify any witnesses or individuals who were present at Club Rodeo during the shooting.

Caldwell County officials have stated that they will not be releasing the officer’s identity to respect the family’s privacy. “We pay our respects to the deputy and his family and ask that their privacy be respected,” said the agency. They added that further information will be shared as it becomes available.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of Deputy Caldwell County Constable,” the Caldwell County 2nd Precinct expressed in a Facebook post. They urged the community to keep the deputy’s family and loved ones in their thoughts during this difficult time.
