San Francisco 49ers Season Recap
The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up the 2025-26 regular season with a 12-5 record, securing a wild card spot in the 2026 NFL Playoffs. In Week 18, they faced the Seattle Seahawks but fell short, which meant they didn’t clinch the No. 1 seed. As a result, they’re coming in as the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoffs.
While the playoffs are still on the horizon, the season has already surpassed many expectations, even before seeing how they perform in the postseason. The team made strategic roster cuts, including moving on from Deebo Samuel and other veterans, aiming to rejuvenate the squad now instead of rebuilding over a longer term. Anticipated growing pains were mitigated as their younger players seemed to gel more quickly than anticipated. This season has been fairly successful, especially considering they lost key players like pass rusher Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner, while wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk didn’t return to the lineup.
Looking ahead to the 2026-27 season, expectations are riding high. With hopes of bringing back Bosa and Warner, along with the salary cap flexibility created over the past year, there’s a good chance they’ll make significant investments in free agency next offseason.

San Francisco 49ers Schedule Analysis
Next season, the 49ers are set to play nine home games and eight away games until the international matchups for 2026 are announced. Their schedule will include battles against the NFC East and AFC West, alongside the usual six divisional clashes within the NFC West. Since they finished in 3rd place in their division, they’ll also take on the 3rd place teams from the NFC North (Vikings), AFC East (Dolphins), and NFC South (Falcons).
Two notable games to keep an eye on are the home matchup against the Commanders and the away game against the Chiefs. Commanders QB Jayden Daniels is anticipated to return for the game, but Patrick Mahomes’ status remains uncertain due to a season-ending ACL injury. The Falcons, Giants, Vikings, and Dolphins are all coming off disappointing seasons, which raises many questions about their trajectories. This, perhaps, makes for a less challenging schedule for the 49ers. Of course, some teams might surprise us for better or worse, but overall, this seems like a manageable schedule for them.
