'David' Hits $70 Million in Box Office Sales

Box Office Success of Animated Film “David”

The animated Biblical film “David” raked in an additional $20 million last week, pushing its overall box office total to around $70 million.

Since its release in theaters last month, “David” has outperformed several big Hollywood offerings, such as the remake of “Running Man,” the horror sequel “I Still Know What I Did Last Summer,” and the Stephen King adaptation “The Long Walk.”

Although the film has earned less than $300,000 internationally, it is set to expand its reach to 44 markets next year.

“David” narrates the tale of the iconic Biblical figure, with direction by Phil Cunningham and Brent Dawes. It features well-known Christian artists Phil Wickham as David and Lauren Daigle as Rebecca.

The story begins with a mother’s heartfelt song and the quiet devotion of a faithful God. As the formidable Goliath threatens the nation, a young shepherd, armed with only a sling, a handful of stones, and unshakable faith, rises to face him. His path is fraught with challenges that test loyalty, love, and bravery, ultimately leading to a pivotal battle for the crown and the soul of the kingdom.

Currently, “David” holds a critic score of 71% and an impressive audience score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, drawing from over 1,000 reviews.

“Families are understandably seeking films that reflect their values and inspire hope. From the outset, Angel Guild members have warmly embraced ‘David.’ We truly appreciate the unwavering support from our remarkable exhibitors and anticipate a long, successful theatrical run as this beloved animated musical continues to resonate with families this Christmas,” said Brandon Purdy, head of theatrical production at Angel Studios.

This film is a follow-up to the miniseries “Young David,” which explores the early life of David before his legendary confrontation with Goliath and his eventual rise to kingship over Israel.
