Nagy and Titans: Potential Coaching Interview on the Horizon

The idea of Matt Nagy joining the Titans seems to be gaining traction, as Tennessee has expressed interest in interviewing him for a coaching position. This request includes the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator and former Bears head coach.

Reports from Monday indicate that, alongside Nagy, the Titans are also considering Kansas City’s defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, as well as Vance Joseph from the Broncos and Lou Anarumo from the Colts, as they look to fill the void left by coach Brian Callahan, who was let go in October.

Nagy, currently in his second term with the Chiefs since 2022, has been their offensive coordinator for the past three years. He has worked alongside Titans GM Mike Borgonzi during their time at the Chiefs, and Spagnuolo has been a defensive coordinator there since 2019, adding to the connections between the teams.

During his four-year stint with the Bears, which ran from 2018 to 2021, Nagy recorded a 34-31 win-loss record and made two playoff appearances before being dismissed following a disappointing 6-11 season.

Nagy initially joined the Chiefs as a quarterbacks coach back in 2013, and was promoted to offensive coordinator three years later. He shared a similar journey with Borgonzi before moving on to Chicago.

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid commented that Nagy “deserves to be a head football coach in this league.” In a recent statement, Nagy reflected on his current position, expressing satisfaction with his role. “I’m really happy with where I’m at right now,” he mentioned. He noted that this time of year brings discussions about new opportunities and emphasized that he’s been preparing for moments like these, hinting at growth from his experiences in Chicago.

Nagy described his return to Kansas City as special and expressed his intent to embrace whatever comes next with an open mind. It’s just that time of year, and he seems ready for potential changes.

Despite the Chiefs’ recent successes – winning two of the last three Super Bowls – their offense faced challenges in 2025, especially after Patrick Mahomes suffered an ACL injury in Week 15, leaving the team ranking poorly in both yards and points per game.

On the defensive side, Spagnuolo has contributed significantly, helping the Chiefs allow one of the lowest averages in yards and points this season. He remains focused on the current season, preparing for upcoming games but acknowledges the uncertainty that comes at the end of the year.

Interestingly, Vance Joseph, a former head coach for the Broncos, and Lou Anarumo, known for his role as the defensive coordinator with the Bengals during their Super Bowl run, are among other candidates being considered. The Titans are looking to capitalize on the potential of Cam Ward, the first overall draft pick last year, who showed flashes of promise during his rookie season before a shoulder injury sidelined him during the final games of the year.
