Brewers prospect Frank Cairone 'not responsible' for NJ accident, according to police

Brewers prospect Frank Cairone was taken to the hospital after a car accident over the weekend in New Jersey, but according to Franklin Township Police Chief Matthew DeCesari, the incident was not his fault.

The accident happened around 10:15 p.m. on Friday when a woman driving ran a stop sign at the intersection of Fleece Mill Road and Williamstown Road, close to where Cairone lives in Franklinville.

“It wasn’t his fault,” DeCesari remarked.

Both the woman driver and a female passenger in Cairone’s vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. It later turned out that the passenger was his girlfriend.

Chief DeCesari confirmed that Cairone, who is 18, was airlifted to Atlantic City Medical Center and is currently receiving treatment while surrounded by his family.

The driver who caused the crash has been charged with reckless driving and failing to stop at a sign. DeCesari clarified that there were no drugs or alcohol involved in the situation.

Cairone, who just celebrated his 18th birthday in September, was drafted by Milwaukee in the second round of the 2025 MLB Draft, being the 68th overall pick.

Although he hasn’t yet made his debut, MLB.com ranks him as the 28th best prospect in the Brewers’ system. He saw an impressive rise in his draft stock following a remarkable senior season at Delsea Regional High School, where he struck out 94 batters in 44 innings and consistently hit mid-90s with his fastball.

Former MLB pitcher and current agent Bobby Witt Sr. described him, stating, “Frank is everything you want. He wants to work and get better. He knows what he’s capable of, and he has everything needed in his makeup.” Cairone also made a strong impression at the MLB Draft held in Arizona, showcasing his skills on the mound at Chase Field, the home of the Diamondbacks.
