Concerns About Immigration Reform in the U.S.
While there’s a general consensus among Republicans that the U.S. must address illegal immigration, some prominent voices are also raising issues regarding the legal immigration system, which they deem “broken.”
Recently, President Trump shared a clip on Truth Social featuring Congressman Randy Fine (R-Florida) discussing the need for immigration reform.
“We need to restructure our legal immigration system to accept only those who love America, share American values, want to add value and assimilate to America, and don’t want free stuff.”
The discussion focused on what legislative adjustments Congress should implement to improve the situation.
Fine expressed concern about the current state of legal immigration, remarking, “I think we need to stop everything immediately, because legal immigration of any kind is clearly out of control. There are those arriving on tourist visas who protest against our country, refugees who exploit the system, and individuals taking jobs from Americans.” He reiterated the call for a restructured legal immigration system centered on American values.
He also referenced Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy, who has put forth a bill aimed at halting all legal immigration until safety measures are put in place, essentially proposing an indefinite suspension of legal immigration.
Roy emphasized that the issue stretches beyond illegal immigration, stating, “The Biden administration opened our borders, allowing millions to enter while additionally endorsing the entry of millions through a complex legal framework that has completely overwhelmed the system.”
When reached for comment, a White House spokesperson declined to provide any additional information.
