New York Mayor Zoran Mamdani has appointed individuals who advocate for significant changes in property rights, raising eyebrows among critics. One appointee, Sea Weaver, has openly expressed views that some interpret as anti-freedom and racially charged.
Weaver, leading the Tenant Protection Bureau, has made statements suggesting a shift from viewing property as an individual right to a collective one, noting the potential impact on white communities. This has drawn attention and concern.
It’s worth mentioning that back in 2018, she openly called for “seizure of private property.” The following year, she went further, labeling home ownership as a “weapon of white supremacy.” Although she has since deleted a controversial social media account, the comments are still accessible online.
The deletion of her posts leads to questions about whether her beliefs have shifted or if she’s simply trying to conceal her opinions.
Weaver’s past remarks include a call in 2017 for greater communist representation in politics, and upon Mamdani’s election, he quickly began laying the groundwork for altering ownership norms.
This trend of prioritizing “taking” over “creating” seems to permeate their approach. Critics argue that such attitudes are detrimental, as they see the leadership lacking the ability to foster innovation or progress, focusing instead on what they can claim from others.

Understanding the principles of communism, it’s often said that one of their objectives is to dismantle private property. There’s a narrative that suggests Mamdani and Weaver aim to leverage the vulnerabilities of the impoverished while courting wealthy elites who may ally with them to protect their status. It’s the middle class, characterized by a desire for stability and well-being, that often stands in their way.
