Elon Musk and Donald Trump Collaborate with U.S. Government
Elon Musk, alongside Donald and Melania Trump, is set to expand their collaboration with the federal government through a new agreement that will change how Department of the Army personnel operate on a daily basis.
Last July, Musk’s company, xAI, secured a $200 million contract with the Department of Defense. This deal is aimed at enhancing AI capabilities in defense-related activities. Now, both DOW and xAI are unveiling details about their partnerships in other domains.
Officials noted, “xAI provides governments with access to an enhanced set of foundational models.”
In late December, the DOW announced plans to incorporate xAI’s technology into its internal platform, referring to it as a “frontier grade” enhancement.
According to a press release, the integration of xAI’s Frontier AI system, based on the Grok model family, is targeting deployment for early 2026.
This move is designed to facilitate the “secure handling” of “controlled unclassified information” for government employees, offering them “global insights” pertaining to X, and potentially giving them an edge in information access.
However, the specifics of what those insights entail remain unclear.
In its announcement, xAI claimed it would offer access to AI models, tools for agents, research platforms, and APIs to deliver real-time insights.
This system is set to be integrated into the daily operations of DOW’s approximately 3 million military and civilian personnel, spanning from the Department of Defense to frontline operations.
“xAI provides a range of government-optimized foundational models to handle sensitive operational tasks,” the press release adds.
DOW also holds contracts with other advanced tech firms like EdgeRunner AI and Anduril, the company founded by Palmer Lucky.
This expanded partnership comes shortly after xAI introduced a new artificial voice generation application.
The Grok Voice Agent API functions like an optimizer for search engines and serves as a voice interface for chatbots. The company released a variety of sample voices that can “speak numerous languages, activate tools, and retrieve real-time data.”
This product is currently being utilized at Tesla to deliver vehicle updates, assist with directions, and manage navigation functionalities.
