Ali Larter Discusses “Landman” Dynamics
In a recent chat at the Critics Choice Awards, Ali Larter, who portrays Angela, the ex-wife of Billy Bob Thornton’s character on the Paramount+ series “Landman,” shared some insights about the show. The 49-year-old actress reflected on the intriguing, often “awkward” relationships depicted within the series and why viewers seem captivated.
“Honestly, we were all a bit taken aback by how successful the second season premiere was,” she admitted. “People are drawn to messy family dynamics—there’s just something for everyone here. Some viewers connect with the marriage storyline, while others find joy in Jacob’s antics or even share a laugh with Michelle’s character. It’s quite diverse.”
During an interview, Larter elaborated on her character, expressing her enthusiasm for portraying “emotionally complex and bold” roles. “I think Taylor is phenomenal,” she remarked about the creator. “This character was written for a woman in her late 40s who wants an intimate connection with her husband. We’re sort of holding a mirror to society, which I believe is essential.”
She also shared, “Playing Angela feels liberating. It brings me back to high school love stories. She is unapologetically herself, which I think many women, myself included, aspire to be, especially when societal norms often box us in.”
Larter particularly enjoys the complexity of her role. “It’s quite thrilling to embody a character who disregards rules and lives freely. I find it exhilarating, especially at this stage in my career.” There’s clearly a sense of freedom that comes from this role, and it resonates with her deeply.
Recently, Larter opened up on Instagram about the challenges of filming, mentioning a bikini scene she had to prepare for. “To all the women striving to look their best, how is everyone doing? I had a bikini scene last week, and it pushed me to really embrace my body,” she said, sharing her daily routine, which includes waking up at 5:30 AM, working out, and maintaining a nutritious diet. “I think many can relate to that feeling of wanting to be comfortable and confident in their own skin.”
In terms of fitness, she shared, “Every morning starts with celery juice and coffee—gotta get that energy up. After cardio and core workouts, I frost my face to invigorate myself for the day ahead. I even have my ‘armor’—Angela’s diamond cross that I wear to feel more powerful.” It’s a method that seems to help keep her grounded.
As “Landman” continues to gain traction, Larter’s connection to her character is evident, showcasing both her versatility as an actress and her commitment to representing women who defy expectations.
