NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani states he doesn't have federal security clearance for briefings

New York City Mayor Acknowledges Lack of Security Clearance

On Monday, New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani conceded that he had not attained federal security clearance, just a day after asserting he had been “briefed” regarding the U.S. capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

During a press conference, Mamdani was directly questioned about the status of his security clearance and admitted he had not received it yet. This revelation follows reports that the newly elected mayor’s comments earlier about the military operation had sparked viral memes suggesting he exaggerated his access to sensitive information.

“Do you have a federal security clearance? Has any federal agency reached out to you or your team regarding this?” a journalist inquired.

“Yes, the briefing was conducted by my team,” Mamdani responded, adding that issues surrounding federal secrecy still existed.

When pressed further, he had to clarify, stating, “No, not yet.” This line of questioning came after initial comments linked to the operation hinted at implied inside knowledge.

Mamdani had publicly stated on a social media platform about being briefed on the capture of Maduro and his wife, alongside plans for their detention in New York City. He took this opportunity to criticize former President Donald Trump’s approach, but some social media users accused him of inflating his knowledge regarding the situation.

One user notably remarked, “I called it,” which gained quite a bit of traction online, receiving over 140,000 likes.

As for Mamdani’s office, it has yet to respond to inquiries regarding this matter.
