Georgia Issues Commemorative License Plates for 250th Anniversary

As the 250th anniversary of the United States approaches, Georgia is not just celebrating with commemorative license plates but is also introducing “America First” plates.

The plates were initially presented in Senate Bill 291, spearheaded by Republican state Sen. Steve Gooch, and received the governor’s approval in May.

Featuring an American flag background and the phrase “America First” at the bottom, these plates are available for a fee of $90.

Gooch remarked that this license plate stands as a “tangible expression of patriotism” and emphasizes prioritizing national needs. He further suggested that it allows Georgians to showcase their national pride, particularly regarding issues like economic stability and national security.

He added that this plate enables Georgians to express their support for former President Donald Trump every time they drive.

Additionally, the state offers U.S. Semi-Quincentennial plates to various businesses for $20, as part of the celebration of America’s historic anniversary.

Georgia Revenue Commissioner Frank O’Connell noted in a press release that the new plates symbolize a significant recognition of the founding of the nation and Georgia’s crucial role in that history.

The design for these plates emerged from a civics education initiative among middle school students in Georgia. The winning design, created by student Eden Pessel, incorporates the American flag and an outline of Georgia with seven red stars and the year “1776.”

Pessel explained that the red stars represent key locations from the Georgia Revolutionary War, marking battles from north to south, including the Battle of Van’s Creek and the Battle of Savannah.

At present, nine states are issuing commemorative plates to honor 250 years of American history. These states include Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Interestingly, reports indicate that nearly 1,000 plates sold in Michigan within the first hour of their release, as shared by Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

Fox News Digital has attempted to reach State Sen. Gooch for further comments.
