Mickey Rourke Responds to Misleading GoFundMe Campaign

Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke has disavowed a GoFundMe campaign claiming to be raising money on his behalf. On Monday, Rourke made it clear that he has no connection to the effort, stating that he would “rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger” than accept charity.

In a video shared on his Instagram, Rourke explained, “Someone’s set up some kind of foundation to give me money, like a charity, and it’s not me, okay? If I need money, I don’t want some f**king charity.” He appeared frustrated, cradling his dog Lucky and wearing a pink V-neck shirt along with a cowboy hat.

Rourke expressed his bewilderment, saying, “I don’t know who did this or why. I don’t understand it. We won’t know in a million years what the GoFund Foundation is.” He added, “My life is very simple and I don’t rely on outside sources like that. Yes, it’s embarrassing, but I’m sure you’ll get over it like anything else.”

The GoFundMe page was started on January 4 by Lia-Joel Jones for Kimberly Hines and has collected over $97,000, nearing its $100,000 target. The donation page claims Rourke, once a powerful figure in Hollywood, suffered from both physical and emotional scars after leaving acting to pursue professional boxing, further asserting he felt abandoned by the industry.

“Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability,” states the page. “What is left is a human being who deserves dignity, housing, and a chance to recover.” Moreover, it claims that the fundraiser was created with Rourke’s permission for immediate housing expenses, ensuring such situations do not recur.

In his video, Rourke urged anyone who donated to the campaign: “Please don’t give away money. If you have given money, please give it back.”

According to reports, Rourke received an eviction notice in December demanding about $60,000 in unpaid rent, or he would have to leave his Los Angeles home, which is a three-bedroom place with a monthly rent of $7,000.

Currently, Rourke is involved with the show Celebrity Big Brother UK, but his time on the program took a turn when he departed early in April 2025, claiming the production had not compensated him as promised. He reportedly left after using what some described as “foul” and “threatening” language.
