Sen Amy Klobuchar states she is 'carefully evaluating' a run for Minnesota governor

Klobuchar Contemplates Governor Run Amid Walz’s Withdrawal

Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) is openly mulling over the possibility of running for governor of Minnesota.

“I love my job, I love my state, and I’m seriously considering it,” she mentioned in a discussion with CNN.

Current Governor Tim Walz had previously pursued re-election but made the announcement on Monday that he would bow out of the race. This development closely follows a significant fraud scandal involving the Somali community in Minnesota.

Republicans in Minnesota argue that Walz’s exit doesn’t resolve the underlying issues.

Walz, who had set out to secure a historic third term, stated, “I’m confident that if I give it my all, I will be successful in that effort.” However, he later reflected during the holidays and realized, perhaps with some regret, that he couldn’t devote himself fully to a political campaign. “Every minute spent on my political interests takes away from protecting Minnesotans from those who exploit our generosity,” he explained. “So I’ve decided to withdraw and focus on my current job instead.”

Klobuchar, serving in the U.S. Senate since 2007, praised Walz as a “true public servant.”

Accusations Targeting Walz Amid Investigation

Walz’s withdrawal surfaced after independent journalist Nick Shirley highlighted allegations of extensive fraud related to state-funded child care facilities, which gained considerable attention. Yet, the governor remains steadfast, declaring, “I’m not going anywhere,” and added defiantly, “If it comes to that, resigning would happen over my dead body.”

It’s noteworthy that Walz had previously been the running mate for then-Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election.
