Cracker Barrel’s Recent Challenges and Menu Changes
Cracker Barrel has faced quite a few hurdles lately.
In August 2025, an attempt to update both its original logo and country-style decor didn’t go as planned. The criticism was immediate and harsh, resulting in significant consequences for the brand.
Recently, they also decided to stop serving black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day. This dish holds a cherished place in Southern culture, symbolizing luck and good health for the new year, prompting a wave of frustration from customers.
Despite these missteps, Cracker Barrel has shown some willingness to listen to its dedicated fan base and adapt to keep them satisfied. This is, well, a positive development. In response to recent feedback, the company is reintroducing two beloved menu items.
Starting Tuesday, patrons can enjoy the reemergence of Eggs in the Basket, a breakfast staple that has graced their menu since 1969. This dish features a hamburger steak with an egg nestled in sourdough bread, served with either bacon or sausage, plus a side.
“Winter calls for comfort and connection, and nothing does that better than classics,” noted Thomas Yun, Cracker Barrel’s Vice President of Menu Strategy and Innovation, in a statement. He emphasized how easy it was to bring back Hamburger Steak and Eggs in the Basket, as both have a special place in the hearts of guests and are frequently requested.
Additionally, the menu now includes new winter-only offerings like the “Breakfast Burger,” “Southern BBQ Ribs,” and “Broccoli Cheese Casserole.”
Of course, indulging in breakfast burgers might throw a wrench in those New Year’s resolutions to eat lighter. It’s probably not going to make your arteries very happy, but your stomach just might thank you.
