Ramaswamy Selects Running Mate for Ohio Governor Race
Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy stated on Wednesday that he has chosen Rob McCauley, the President of the Ohio State Senate, as his running mate for the 2026 gubernatorial election in Ohio.
The campaign is gearing up for a rally in Cleveland later on Wednesday to officially announce the partnership.
“I’m thrilled to introduce Rob McCauley as my pick for lieutenant governor of Ohio,” Ramaswamy mentioned in an announcement. “I’m an entrepreneur, not a traditional politician, and Rob is the right partner to help push our ambitious legislative goals forward.”
He further emphasized McCauley’s credentials, calling him a solid conservative leader committed to realizing the American Dream for all residents of Ohio.
McCauley, who is also a Republican, currently serves Ohio’s 1st Senate District, which spans 11 counties in the northwest region of the state.
Ramaswamy’s campaign noted that McCauley has gained respect as a principled politician and problem solver throughout his time in the Ohio General Assembly.
“He made his entry into the House of Representatives in 2014 and became the President of the Ohio Senate in January 2025,” the statement elaborated. His successes include reducing government regulations, advocating for tax cuts to encourage economic growth, and taking measures to prevent future shutdowns similar to those seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.
McCauley has educational credentials from The Ohio State University and the University of Toledo School of Law. Before his legislative career, he was involved in the Henry County Community Improvement Corporation, focusing on economic and workforce development in local communities.
Looking ahead to the upcoming election, the campaign has plans for both candidates to travel across Ohio over the next ten months.
“Ohio needs visionaries and creators, not bureaucrats or quitters,” McCauley expressed in a statement. “Vivek Ramaswamy will undoubtedly be one of the most dynamic leaders in our state’s history, and I’m honored to support his vision.”
