New Coin Designs for America’s 250th Anniversary

The U.S. Mint has unveiled seven new coin designs to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, set for the end of 2025. The first of these coins is already making its way into circulation this week.

These commemorative coins will be available for a limited period and will appear on dimes, quarters, and half dollars. Each coin will display the dates “1776-2026.”

This initiative stems from the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act that President Trump signed into law on January 13, 2021. Among the designs, you’ll find representations of past presidents, pilgrims, and the Statue of Liberty.

“These historic coin designs illustrate America’s evolution toward a ‘more perfect union’ and celebrate our fundamental ideals of freedom,” noted Christy McNally, Deputy Mint Chief. “We aim to unite Americans through these coins, allowing everyone to hold 250 years of our nation’s rich history in their hands.”

The Mayflower Compact Quarter is the first of the new coins to circulate, having launched on Monday. Other coins are expected to follow suit throughout 2026.

Overview of the New Coin Designs

The Emerging Liberty Dime

Only one new dime will commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary. This dime will replace Franklin D. Roosevelt with a design titled “Freedom with the Winds of Revolution in His Hair,” featuring an eagle clutching an arrow on its reverse side.

The Mayflower Compact Quarter

This first of five new quarter designs showcases two pilgrims—one male and one female—under a banner reading “E Pluribus Unum,” which translates to “one of many.” The reverse includes an image of the Mayflower along with the words “Mayflower Compact.”

The Revolutionary War Quarter

This quarter showcases George Washington on one side, while the reverse depicts a Continental Army soldier from Valley Forge, along with the engraving “Revolutionary War.”

The Declaration of Independence Quarter

Featuring a profile portrait of Thomas Jefferson on the front, this quarter boasts an image of the Liberty Bell on the back.

The U.S. Constitution Quarter

The obverse highlights James Madison’s portrait, and the reverse features Independence Hall, the site where the Constitution was signed.

The Gettysburg Address Quarter

On this coin, you’ll find a statue of President Abraham Lincoln on one side, while the reverse depicts two clasped hands. It also includes the phrase “a new nation conceived in freedom.”

The Enduring Liberty Half Dollar

This half dollar presents a close-up view of the Statue of Liberty on one side, while the other shows her hand passing the torch along with the motto: “Knowledge is the only guardian of true freedom.”
