Spencer Pratt Announces Mayoral Campaign at Protest

During a protest marking a year since a devastating fire in Pacific Palisades, reality TV figure Spencer Pratt received enthusiastic support as he declared his intention to run for mayor of Los Angeles.

The protest, titled “They Let Us Burn!” organized by the Palisades Fire Resident Coalition, commemorated the tragic fire that resulted in 12 fatalities and destroyed over 6,500 homes. In an emotional address, Pratt recounted the personal losses he and his family endured on that day last January.

“On Jan. 7, 2025, [his wife] Heidi [Montag] and I lost our home. We lost everything. My parents also lost their house, and with it, decades of memories,” he shared with the audience, calling that day the “worst day of my life.”

Frustrated by the authorities’ response to the incident, Pratt’s announcement of his mayoral candidacy was met with cheers. He voiced his belief that the system in Los Angeles is fundamentally flawed, designed to benefit a select few while the majority suffers. He emphasized an urgent need for change.

“The system in Los Angeles isn’t struggling, it’s fundamentally broken,” Pratt asserted, rallying the crowd. “Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles. I’m done waiting for someone to take action. This isn’t just a campaign; it’s a mission to expose the system.”

His campaign rhetoric reflects his ongoing criticism of Governor Gavin Newsom, whom he holds accountable for the fire’s inadequacies. Pratt has accused Newsom of negligence and prioritizing bureaucracy over lives, calling for greater accountability and even federal intervention.

Although Pratt has expressed conservative views in the past, including support for John McCain’s 2008 presidential run, he represents his mayoral efforts as a non-partisan mission focused on systemic reform rather than strict adherence to political party lines.

Gaining fame in 2007 through his relationship with Heidi Montag, a recognizable figure from “The Hills,” the couple wed the next year and share two children, 8-year-old Gunner and 3-year-old Ryker.

“They intentionally let us burn before, during, and after,” Montag expressed, criticizing the lack of accountability. “It wasn’t a natural disaster; it was their fault, and we need the accountability we deserve.”

In addition to reality shows, Pratt and Montag participated in programs like “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” and “Celebrity Big Brother” in the UK.
