Democratic Leader Denounces Minnesota Shooting, Labels Noem a ‘Liar’
On Thursday, Democratic leaders in Congress expressed strong condemnation regarding the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. They called for an immediate investigation and turned down the explanation provided by President Donald Trump’s administration about the incident.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer made these remarks during a press conference. Jeffries placed blame on the Department of Homeland Security, while Schumer referred to Kristi Noem as an “absolute liar,” voicing his distrust in the current administration’s ability to investigate the shooting properly.
“First off, the murder of Renee Nicole Good is absolutely abhorrent and shameful. It reflects the blood on the hands of those pushing extreme policies that have nothing to do with removing violent felons from our country,” Jeffries stated.
He continued, “We support the removal of violent felons here illegally. But honestly, that’s not the action this administration is taking under Kristi Noem’s so-called leadership. There’s no evidence justifying this shooting.”
Schumer echoed these sentiments but also stressed the importance of a thorough inquiry at both state and local levels. “I watched the video, and it honestly felt like a punch in the gut. From my perspective, it seems there’s no justification for the officers’ actions. We need a complete investigation at the federal level. I have little faith in the FBI or DHS for a fair inquiry, but local authorities should also step in,” Schumer remarked.
The press conference coincided with a protest in Minneapolis, where hundreds gathered in opposition to federal forces. Reports indicated at least four protesters were detained by federal agents.
In a separate incident, Noem condemned an alleged attack on an ice distributor left stranded in the snow as an “act of domestic terrorism.”
During the protests, demonstrators were heard yelling “shame” at officers and telling them to “go home.” ICE agents reportedly discharged pepper balls and tear gas as tensions escalated.
Noem defended the ICE agent involved in the shooting, stating that police had repeatedly requested Good to exit her vehicle. She claimed Good had been “stalking and sabotaging” the agent throughout the day.
