Marco Rubio dismisses 'rumors' about his desire to be the next Dolphins coach

Miami Dolphins Fire Head Coach Mike McDaniel

The Miami Dolphins announced the firing of head coach Mike McDaniel on Thursday morning. In a twist, Senator Marco Rubio humorously noted that there were “rumors online” about him being a potential candidate to take over. However, he quickly dismissed those rumors.

“Normally I don’t respond to online rumors,” Rubio stated, “but in this moment, I feel the need to clarify: I will not be a candidate for the currently vacant head coach and GM positions of the Miami Dolphins. I think, at this point, my focus should remain on world events.” He expressed gratitude for his current role and the archives of U.S. history.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross emphasized the team’s need for “comprehensive change,” given their disappointing record of 7 wins and 10 losses, missing the playoffs for the second year in a row. General manager Chris Grier was also let go back in October.

“After a careful evaluation and extensive discussion following the end of the season, we have decided that our organization requires comprehensive change,” the statement noted.

Ross shared, “This morning, I informed Mike McDaniel that he has been relieved of his position as head coach. I appreciate his hard work and dedication. His passion for the game and for our players was evident daily. I wish him all the best moving forward.”

This firing marks the eighth coaching change across the NFL this season. McDaniel led the Dolphins to the playoffs in his first two seasons but faced elimination in the first round both times. The following year, the team suffered an unexpected final game loss to the New York Jets, drastically impacting their playoff chances.

McDaniel’s last season was rocky, with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa struggling and ultimately being benched for the last three games. The Dolphins now face the challenge of finding a new leader to steer the team in a more successful direction.
