Reactions to Anti-ICE Activist’s Death
Following the passing of an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activist in Minnesota, several Hollywood celebrities expressed their outrage on social media, labeling ICE as “murderous.”
Mark Hamill, known for his role in Star Wars, characterized the situation as “disgusting,” stating, “This is not law enforcement. This is murder.”
Search for videos on Google and see for yourself. This is not a law enforcement agency. This is murder. I feel ill.
— Mark Hamill
Actor Mark Ruffalo has called for the arrest of the ICE officer who defended him against activist Renee Nicole Goode when she allegedly attempted to run him over.
Please arrest this thug!
— Mark Ruffalo
Jon Cryer, another actor, has accused ICE of harboring “white supremacists.” He commented on the dangers posed by a militarized police force filled with such individuals.
If history has shown us anything, it is that a vast, overfunded, undertrained, militarized secret police force, torn apart by a sizable group of white supremacists and ready to commit ultraviolence, is an incredibly dangerous situation. Oh yeah… abolish ice cream.
— Jon Cryer
Other entertainment industry figures also took to social media to criticize ICE and former President Trump.
ICE just executed an American in Minneapolis. He shot an unarmed woman in the face.
— Ethan Embry

It’s unsustainable. Opposition leaders and the media will be impatient. It depends on community organizing and action.
— Alex Winter
Trump said he won’t lose followers if he shoots someone on Fifth Avenue. We are actually seeing this happening now. We cannot leave this unattended.
— Margaret Cho
Mr. Trump, his Cabinet members, and the media know that ICE killed a woman by repeatedly shooting her in the face at close range. They are aware that we know this. They hope enough people will accept it. So, we have to make a decision. We have extraordinary power at this moment.
— Rob Delaney
Remember, mayors and governors can use city and state police to protect their citizens from illegal activity by ICE. They are choosing not to do that.
— Adam McKay
Hang on. You’re confusing ICE with law enforcement. It’s not a police crackdown. That is violence and fascism. I am completely satisfied that ICE has been fully abolished and abolished. Like yesterday.
— David Simon
Impeachment. Remove. Be convicted of a crime. Everyone!!
— Darryl Hannah
