Trump Administration Targets Misuse of Taxpayer Funds in California

The Trump administration is intensifying efforts to address the improper use of taxpayer dollars. A prominent federal prosecutor has taken aim at California Governor Gavin Newsom, labeling him a “king of fraud” due to perceived deficiencies in oversight.

“California has allocated $24 billion over the past five years to combat homelessness, yet no one can seem to account for where that funding has gone,” Bill Esseri, assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, stated during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” this Thursday.

In April, Esseri initiated a task force to explore corruption related to homeless services in California. This effort has already led to federal charges against two individuals accused of manipulating real estate projects to exploit the state’s homelessness system for personal profit.

Esseri remarked that the cases, involving millions in alleged fraudulent activities, represent only the “tip of the iceberg.”

“We have already filed charges involving multi-million dollar fraud,” he emphasized.

He mentioned the likelihood of more charges being filed this month, attributing ongoing fraud in state programs to a lack of oversight and accountability from Newsom and California’s Democratic leadership.

This examination of California’s practices comes amid similar federal investigations in other Democratic-led states, including Minnesota, where federal officials are probing accusations of rampant fraud in childcare and social services.

President Donald Trump expressed his thoughts on the matter via Truth Social, suggesting that California might be “more corrupt” than Minnesota and confirming that a fraud investigation there has commenced.

Responding to the allegations, Newsom’s organization countered the claims, stating that the governor has thwarted over $125 billion in fraud, apprehended “criminal parasites” that exploit taxpayers, and defended the public against the very type of fraud that Trump allegedly supports.

Vice President J.D. Vance has also scrutinized California’s welfare policies, criticizing the state for extending benefits without regard to immigration status. Vance pointed out that California explicitly advertises its use of taxpayer funds for providing Medicaid to undocumented immigrants.

“California has made it very clear that it provides welfare to illegal aliens,” he stated. “They are profiting off the generosity of American taxpayers. This political corruption needs to be addressed.”
