The Olympic medalist and 13-time X Games champion recently experienced a serious head injury during a risky stunt. Nyjah Huston, who clinched a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, announced that she suffered a fractured skull and also injured her eye socket.
“This serves as a harsh reminder of the dangers involved in sliding on giant rails,” Huston reflected in an Instagram post, alongside a photo of herself in a hospital bed. “Take each day as it comes. I hope your New Year was better than mine. We live to fight another day.”
The post also captured moments of her being attended to by paramedics and friends, along with another photo showcasing a significant bruise around her eye. Numerous skating legends have expressed their support for Huston, who is celebrated as one of America’s top skateboarders.
Shaun White shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram Story, saying, “I’ve watched @nyjah grow into one of the best skaters ever, and it’s incredible to see her resilience.” He added a wish for her speedy recovery. Tony Hawk conveyed his encouragement, urging her to stay strong, while Ryan Sheckler prayed for her healing.
Uncertainty remains regarding whether Huston was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Despite this setback, she has an impressive track record, holding seven gold and five silver medals from world championships. Though she hasn’t competed since the 2024 Olympics, the California native is already eyeing the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
