Protests Erupt After ICE Officer-Involved Shooting in Minneapolis
Activists opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) mobilized again following the fatal shooting of a woman by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis. Recent footage captures the intense demonstrations that unfolded.
Amid chants and hostile remarks directed at the agents, a crowd gathered outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building. The atmosphere was charged, with protesters expressing their frustrations vocally.
One protester was heard shouting, “What did you do?! You are terrorizing our community! Cowards!” This reaction encapsulated the anger brewing among many who were present.
In the video captured at the scene, another demonstrator yelled vehemently, “Fuck you, you fascist pigs!” while another female voice cried out, “You’ve never served this country, but I did! What have you done? You’re terrorizing us!”
To control the situation, federal investigators deployed flashbang grenades and chemical agents to encourage the protesters to disperse.
Chants resonated through the crowd, including a unified demand: “Say it once, say it twice, we won’t put up with ICE!” A man sporting a “Black Lives Matter” shirt led a chant of “Fuck ICE!” which quickly morphed into a collective shout of “Get out!”
The woman who lost her life in the incident was identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Macklin Good from Colorado. New video footage from the officer involved was released, showing the moments leading up to the shooting.
Reports indicate that two individuals were apprehended during the protests. One of them, a woman identified as Jessica, admitted to striking a federal vehicle during the demonstration.
“They just didn’t seem to know what they were doing,” she commented. “I got hit by a car because I was angry,” she added, her frustration palpable.
A concrete barrier has since been erected to ensure the safety of the agents at the facility.
