Tragic Incident in Los Angeles: Mother Charged with Infant’s Death

A shocking case has emerged from a luxury apartment in Los Angeles County, where a young mother is accused of fatally attacking her 15-month-old daughter with a frying pan.

Carmen Anita DeGregg, 24, who had been a high school wrestler, was officially charged with the murder earlier this week. Reports suggest that the studio apartments in the Charlie Luxury Apartment Complex in Santa Monica start at $3,200 monthly, reaching up to $6,000 for larger units.

On Tuesday, DeGregg approached police at UCLA’s campus and bizarrely admitted to injuring her child, directing them to her apartment. Officers found the infant suffering from severe injuries, and despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, the child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Documents from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office reveal that DeGregg faces charges of murder and felony assault on a child under 8, resulting in death.

A neighbor living above DeGregg reported hearing odd noises from her apartment that morning, stating that it sounded like someone was in distress. “Around 9 o’clock, I heard a woman’s voice, almost like she was in pain,” the neighbor recalled. “It was unsettling enough that I thought I should leave.”

Investigators spent hours on the scene, gathering evidence and left with numerous items for further examination.

It remains uncertain whether the father of the baby lived in the complex; he was questioned but later released without any charges. Previous reports from the Los Angeles Times suggested that he may not have been involved.

Online images depict DeGregg at her high school wrestling events and celebrating her graduation from Everett High School in Washington back in 2019.

Currently, her bail is set at $2 million, and if found guilty, she could end up facing a 25-year prison sentence. DeGregg was in court for her arraignment but did not enter a plea, with her next court date scheduled for February 23.
