Florida Boy Found Dead in Woods Likely Died of Hypothermia
A young boy from Florida was found deceased alongside his dog in the woods a few days after going missing from his father’s residence in Alabama on New Year’s Eve. Preliminary autopsy findings indicate that 4-year-old Jonathan Boley likely succumbed to hypothermia, with no signs suggesting drowning, according to Walker County Coroner Joey Vick.
Vick mentioned that Jonathan, affectionately dubbed “Jon John” by his family, had taken off his shoes before his body was discovered in a wooded area near Jasper, roughly two miles from where he disappeared. A group of volunteers found him on January 2 during their search.
Earlier this week, officials confirmed that there were no indications of trauma or injuries related to assault, as reported.
The final autopsy report is anticipated to be released next week.
Jonathan lived in Florida with his mother and was visiting his father for the holiday season. He was last seen playing in the yard with his older brother and their mixed breed dog, Buck, just before noon on New Year’s Eve.
His father, Jameson Boley, reported him missing about an hour after Jonathan had walked away with Buck across the property line.
After an extensive two-day search involving numerous volunteers and law enforcement, the boy was located alive, with Buck by his side.
In a twist, Jameson, aged 40, was arrested after authorities found at least eight explosive devices around his home, prompting a halt to ground searches in the area.
Authorities also discovered methamphetamine at the residence. Jameson now faces charges for unlawfully manufacturing destructive devices and for putting a child in danger with chemicals.
