An Ohio dentist’s ex-husband, Michael David McKee, was arrested Saturday in the Chicago area, as noted in court documents.
McKee, 39, was taken into custody, according to police records.
On December 30, Columbus police discovered the bodies of 37-year-old Spencer Tepe and his 39-year-old wife, Monique, at their Weinland Park home around 10 a.m. Authorities confirm that McKee is Monique’s former spouse.
His arrest occurred just before noon at the Winnebago County, Illinois, Sheriff’s Office. He faces two murder charges in Ohio.
Detectives in Columbus believe the killings likely happened between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on that same day.
When officers arrived, they found the couple’s children safe inside the house.
No signs of forced entry were found, and no weapons were located at the crime scene, according to officials.
Rob Misley, Spencer’s brother-in-law, shared with WSYX that the couple’s murders took place just a month before their fifth wedding anniversary.
Their divorce was finalized in 2017, and public records indicate that McKee has lived in several states since 2020, including Virginia, Nevada, and Illinois.
On Monday, police released surveillance footage featuring a “person of interest” seen walking in an alley near the Tepe residence during the early hours of December 30.
The footage shows a man in a dark coat and light pants moving slowly down the alley near the couple’s home.
At 10:03 a.m. on December 30, a friend of the Tepes alerted a 911 operator after discovering a body inside their home.
The caller reported, “There’s a dead body.” They added, “Our friend didn’t answer the phone; we just did a medical checkup.”
They expressed concern, stating, “It looks like he’s dead. He’s lying next to the bed, covered in blood.” However, they couldn’t approach any closer.
The couple’s family released a heartfelt statement expressing their profound grief, describing the deaths as “tragic and senseless.”
They highlighted that Spencer was a graduate of The Ohio State University and portrayed him as a proud father, loving partner, and a friend to many. He was characterized within the family statement as “intelligent, warm, and infinitely welcoming.”
