Josh Allen Leads Bills to Road Playoff Victory

Josh Allen finally achieved what he had not done before: win a road playoff game. This time, it was the Buffalo Bills who edged out the Jacksonville Jaguars with a score of 27-24 on Sunday afternoon, with Allen contributing two key points, including the decisive touchdown.

The fourth quarter was a nail-biter, with both teams scoring two touchdowns in a matter of minutes. Ultimately, Allen’s second rushing touchdown of the game proved to be the most crucial.

After Trevor Lawrence caught a 14-yard touchdown from Travis Etienne Jr., the Jaguars took a lead of 24-20. The crowd in Duval County erupted, but the time was still on the Bills’ side.

We’ve seen glimpses of Allen’s playoff prowess before, but entering this game, he had an 0-4 record in road playoff outings. The pressure mounted as Jacksonville’s defense was relentless throughout the game.

One notable moment came when Allen launched a 36-yard pass to Brandin Cooks, who was instrumental with three catches for 58 yards. That play helped propel the Bills into Jacksonville territory.

Facing a fourth-and-inches on the Jaguars’ 11-yard line, it was clear Buffalo was going to utilize Allen for their version of a “Tush Push.” However, what unfolded surprised everyone. Allen not only gained the first down but was propelled forward for an additional 10 yards, almost reaching the end zone.

On the next play, despite the officials initially ruling it a touchdown, the Bills managed to put Allen into the end zone without much struggle from the Jaguars. Jacksonville, in a last-ditch effort and down by three with over a minute left, seemed eager to score.

Considering the kicking prowess of Cam Little, who had previously set the NFL record for the longest field goal this season, Lawrence didn’t need to push too hard for a chance to send the game to overtime.

However, the drive met an early halt as Lawrence’s pass to Jacobi Meyers was tipped by Tre’Davious White and intercepted by safety Cole Bishop. With the Jaguars lacking timeouts, the game ended in the Bills’ favor.

Now, the Bills await their next opponent for the divisional round. In the box score, Allen completed 28 of 35 passes for 273 yards, including a touchdown pass to Dalton Kincaid in the fourth quarter. He also rushed for 33 yards on 11 carries, while James Cook struggled against a tough rushing defense, acquiring only 46 yards on 15 attempts.

Khalil Shakir stepped up as well for Buffalo, catching all 12 targets for 82 yards. On the other side, Lawrence threw three touchdown passes on 30 attempts but also had two interceptions, including one by Shaq Thompson in the first half. He ended the game with 207 passing yards and 31 rushing yards.

The Jaguars also found success on the ground, with Etienne scoring 67 yards and Beichul Tuten contributing 51 yards on just four carries. Parker Washington led in receptions with seven catches for 107 yards.
