Trinidad Chambliss to Sue NCAA for Sixth Year of Eligibility

Trinidad Chambliss is gearing up to take legal action against the NCAA in Mississippi. The goal? To secure a sixth year of eligibility for the Ole Miss quarterback.

Tom Mars, Chambliss’s lawyer, mentioned that he is collaborating with trial attorney William Liston to file “preliminary and permanent injunction motions for Trinidad Chambliss.” This was shared in a conversation with ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

“We anticipate this lawsuit will be more extensive and well-documented compared to other eligibility cases over the last year,” Mars stated. “We have a considerable amount of preparation ahead of us before requesting an injunction for Trinidad to play next season. We plan to submit the lawsuit by this weekend unless the NCAA Appeals Committee reverses the waiver denial.” He added that no further comments would be made until then.

Chambliss is after that sixth year after leading the Rebels to the College Football Playoff semifinals, where they narrowly lost to Miami, 31-27.

The NCAA had turned down Chambliss’s request for a year extension, announcing on Friday that both Ole Miss and Ferris State—where he previously played—failed to provide sufficient medical documentation needed to approve his request.

Chambliss redshirted his first year at Ferris State and missed the subsequent season for medical issues but later contributed to the team, even driving them to a national championship before he transferred to Ole Miss before the last season began.

Ole Miss submitted a waiver request to the NCAA back in November.

During a standout 13-2 season, Chambliss passed for nearly 4,000 yards and threw 22 touchdown passes, achieving a school-winning record and participating in his first College Football Playoff.

In a potential pivot, Ole Miss secured a replacement for Chambliss by signing Auburn quarterback Deuce Knight from the transfer portal on Sunday. Knight made two appearances for Auburn last season and notably threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns in a 62-17 victory against Mercer back in November.
