Dearika Hamby Makes History in 3-on-3 League

Los Angeles Sparks forward Dearika Hamby has just set an impressive milestone. Hamby, part of the Vinyl Club, became the first player in the history of the 3-on-3 league to score 40 points in a game, achieving this in just 17 minutes and shooting 16-for-23.

In addition to her 40 points, Hamby also grabbed 10 rebounds (four offensive) and dished out two assists, leading Vinyl (1-2) to a commanding 89-66 victory over Hibs Club (0-3).

Other contributors for Vinyl included Rhyne Howard with 18 points, Erica Wheeler with 14, and Courtney Williams adding 12.

This win marked Vinyl’s first of the season, while Hibs continues to seek their first victory. Hibs had standout performances from Sonia Citron (17 points), Monique Billings (17 points), Kelsey Mitchell (15 points), and Ezee Magbegor (12 points).

Hamby credited her team’s effective ball movement for her remarkable performance.

“We often talk about how special our group is, and everyone can score at a high level. Tonight, the pick-and-roll worked perfectly… I finished strong at the rim,” she said.

Vinyl’s head coach, Theresa Weatherspoon, praised Hamby’s contributions on the court.

“She really drives the action out there; she’s the ultimate teammate,” Weatherspoon remarked. “She sets up plays so the rest can shine… Her vision is exceptional.”

Diarika Hamby’s Success Continues

Unrivaled, the women’s professional basketball league co-founded by Nafeesa Collier and Brianna Stewart, has just wrapped up the first week of its second season. The league features many of the WNBA’s top players, including Paige Bueckers, Kelsey Plumb, Alesha Gray, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston.

At 32, Hamby is playing some of the best basketball of her career. Last season, in her third year with the Sparks, she averaged 18.4 points and shot 57.2 percent from the field, both of which were career highs. Hamby has been named an All-Star three times (2021, 2022, 2024) and has twice been honored as Sixth Woman of the Year (2019, 2020).

Her success in the WNBA has seamlessly transitioned into her performance in Unrivaled, where she currently ranks as the league’s third-leading scorer, just behind Chelsea Gray, who averages 31.7 points per game.

“She’s really enhanced my game,” Weatherspoon noted. “Her confidence is remarkable, so we’re bound to see nights like this from her again.”
